On the evening of March 2nd, 2024, I spent about 5 hours shooting the brightest stars I could find in the night sky. I made this collage of the stars and arranged them based on alphabetical order. The second image has the legend of each star.
Why are some stars blue while others are yellow or red?
The color of the star is usually an additive combination of emissions from each wavelength. Hot stars appear blue while cool stars appear red.
If you look closely, you can identify more than blue or red. The sequence of colors from hottest to coolest is: Blue, White, Yellow, Orange, and Red.
I used a 16” dobsonian and a DSLR camera to make the captures. Each capture was 8 seconds exposure.
Full resolution is 45 megapixels. The download includes a labelled and non labelled version of the image. It is optimized for best quality printing whether for posters or metal printing up to 40x60 inches.
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 189 g/m²
• Opacity: 94%
• ISO brightness: 104%
• Paper is sourced from Japan
