Comet ZTF/2022 E3 (The Green Comet)
This is Comet ZTF/2022 E3, captured on January 28th, 2023. This beautiful visitor is frozen leftovers from the formation of the solar system composed of dust, rock, and ices. As it approached the sun, it heats up and spews gases and dust into a glowing head that can be larger than a planet. This material forms a tail that stretches millions of miles. The last time this comet came this close to earth was 50,000 years ago. I captured it in the bortle 6 skies of Glen Allen, Virginia.
